Replacing the Hyundai Tiburon, the 2012 Hyundai Veloster is one of seven new models that Hyundai launched in 2011. The 2012 Veloster is a small front-drive, four-seat coupe aimed at the twenty-something first-time buyer. Not only does it give drivers affordable performance, but it also stands to take down competition such as the Ford Focus coupe, Honda Civic coupe, Mitsubishi Eclipse and Scion tC.
The 2012 Veloster's front end sports Hyundai's signature hexagonal front grille, hood scoop detailing and unique Hyundai-signature LED position lights, while the rear silhouette mimics that of classic GT cars with its high roof and tail that increase room for rear passengers and cargo. A unique third door allows passengers to easily access the rear seats. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels round out the aggressive look, with the choice to upgrade to one of two different 18-inch wheel options, the top-of-the-line version of which comes with segment-first painted inserts. Other options include a chrome grille surround, piano black highlights, fog lights and a massive panoramic sunroof to the exterior. | |

Inside, the 2012 Veloster's designers took a number of style cues from the design of a motorcycle. The look of a sport bike fuel tank was used in the set-up of the center stack and controls, which include an available push-button starter; motorcycle tailpipes inspired the air vents and motorcycle seats influenced the design of the floor console.
Under the hood, an all-new Gamma 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) technology powers the Veloster, letting it achieve 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque.This engine can be paired with either a standard 6-speed manual transmission or an all-new 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). | |
